Concretions are simple, benign collections of keratin debris, sometimes with calcium, rarely cause significant symptoms and even less frequently need any kind of treatment.

Buried concretions should be ignored. Those which are eroding through the conjunctiva may cause FB sensation until they have fallen out; simple lubricants will help until such time as the concretion can be wiped out with a cotton bud.

More symptomatic patients may prefer to have the concretion removed with a needle, although this is rarely required and should be well within the capabilities of a CUES optometrist. The link to the college guidelines on this is below:
